Town Center Redevelopment and the Hartley Center. A Connection?

The Hartley Center is coming down. Unocal's circular building on Imperial Highway will meet the wrecking ball sometime this Summer to help make way for the La Floresta development, which brings 1200 mixed-use condos, apartments and homes, as well as retail and office space to the 120 acre site at Unocal's old test facility in Brea.

Here's a marketing statement from the La Floresta web site. "Unocal's goal for the property's revitalization is to create a place where residents can live, work, and relax within a 'small town' setting that is rich in architectural and landscape forms reflective of Brea's heritage." Sound familiar?

Substitute the words "Unocal's" with "The City's" and "Brea's" with "Yorba Linda's." Does the quote sound even more familiar? It should. The principal planning liaison for the La Floresta project team is Ken Ryan, our Yorba Linda City Councilman and the major proponent of Yorba Linda's Town Center redevelopment plan. As well as representing us on City Council, Mr. Ryan works for EDAW, the international urban planning firm hired by the La Floresta developers.

Here's a story from Friday's "Orange County Register" about the Hartley Center demolition.
